Vermeer and an introduction of sorts

The first post on this blog will be a sort of thanks to Johannes Vermeer, becuase without this man and his life's work I would not have set out on the path I decided on - to discover the art of painting and in doing so become myself.

JohannesJan or Johan Vermeer (Dutch: [joˈɦɑnəs jɑn vərˈmɪːr]; 1632 – December 1675) was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle class life. Vermeer was a moderately successful provincial genre painter in his lifetime. He seems never to have been particularly wealthy, leaving his wife and children in debt at his death, perhaps because he produced relatively few paintings.[3]
Vermeer worked slowly and with great care, using bright colours and sometimes expensive pigments, with a preference for cornflower blue and yellow. He is particularly renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light in his work.[4
